Description |
Canteen, ceramic; brownware; coiled and hand built with the paddle and anvil technique; canteen is in the shape of a rounded person with arms, legs, head and face; rim opening for drinking is at the top of the head and holes for a rope to hang canteen are at the shoulders; crack diagonally across the flat back of the canteen; white accretions and chip along the back rim. Made by Owas Hilmawa (1871-1930) from the Manzanita Reservation. Piece has "Wasp" written in black ink on the back. This is a misinterpretation, by the original collector, of Owas' name. She was also known by the name Rosa Lopez. Dimensions: Length: 7.5", Width: 6.25", Depth: 2.75", Weight: 1.243 lbs. |
